Japanese artist Masami Akita, aka noise music icon Merzbow here teams up with session musician, producer, and singer-songwriter Eiko Ishibashi for a new work which showcases yet another side to Akita's monumental catalogue. For dedicated followers of the ‘Bow, Kouen Kyoudai is another welcome addition, one which is immediately delicate and fragile; an hour of feedback, loops, fuzz-guitar, free-jazz drums, gurgling electronics, processed computer sound, and piano. That fragility soon collapses into a chaotic headspin of noise – like Philip Jeck’s loop-science, stuck on its own endless loop. A good thing.
