Queen of the NYC art-punk/no-wave/disco-not-disco sound, Lizzie Mercier Descloux is treated to a trio of deluxe Light in The Attic Reissues in the Spring of 2016, and we can all be very grateful for that. This is her fourth record, fourteen tracks deep and cut down on special coloured wax. Ever the globe-trotter, this time Lizzie decamped to Rio De Janeiro for a Kaleidoscopic recordings session that embraced local musical traditions, NYC art-style, Gallic cool, and jazzwise chops. Most notable is the album’s foray into jazz, and the fact that Chet Baker, the master jazz trumpeter, blew his last on “Fog Horn Blues” and the sensuous “Off Off Pleasure”. A wild and strange and lovely record.
