Ocoeur is Franck Zaragoza from Bruges, a French-born pianist and composer. ‘Reversed’ is his third full-length for N5MD, an expressive marriage of modern classical and electronics in the vein of Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds or Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch. Ocoeur’s piano compositions are superseded only by his breathtaking sound design. The number of moods is can conjure up is astounding, although there always seems to be a hint of loss, an icy void at the heart of his delicate piano playing. Tracks such as ‘Timeless’ and ‘Reverse Yourself’ call to mind the icy beat experiments of Nosaj Thing, while others like ‘Souffle’ benefit from some gorgeous, expansive string arrangements. This album hits like an icicle to the heart.
