Conceptual electronic duo Matmos release a new album recorded in their home studio in Baltimore, constructed entirely using the sounds of their Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing machine. The album cycle starts with dull sounds like the turning of their wash size selection wheel and ends with the finished signal, but the sounds are anything but banal: it’s clanking, beeping, and droning, providing a strange take on industrial, drone, and house music styles with guests like Dan Deacon, providing additional drum and audio processing.
