Legendary horror music film scorer John Carpenter returns to Sacred Bones with the second instalment to his 2015 inaugurated, original material project Lost Themes. Once again working with his son Cody Carpenter and his godson Daniel Davies, the American soundtracks the fictional scene projected in your minds eye, replete with his time-honoured minimal synth work that allows this project to brim with tension and suspense. Working free of a specific narrative allows us to conjure our own story, unfolding first with the daggered synth dystopia on ‘Distant Dream’ and ominous, twinkling chord rushes on ‘White Pulse’, whilst ‘Bela Lugosi’ plays out on a grander scale. Throughout, it’s evident that Carpenter is intent on exploring the themes found in his seminal OST work, although here, it’s up to us to fill in the gaps.
