London house institution Hypercolour welcome British visionary Edward Upton on their roster. A Rephlex regular in the 1990s, Upton has since released on Spectral Sound, Permanent Vacation and his own imprints Breakin’ Records and Fresh Up Records, to just name a few. Crafted under his DMX Krew moniker, his Hypercolour debut foregrounds a retro synth aesthetic – strikingly melodic, saturated electro sounds. Shifting between moods, You Exist is captivating throughout. Brighter moments like the bouncing house opener ‘Spiritual Encounter’ and the flute-led ‘Hard Copy’ are contrasted by otherworldly sci-fi excursions into ‘Parallel Universes’ and acid-tinted 'Computational Paradigm Shift(s)’. Upton turns back the clock with 'Black Poppy’s’ breakbeat and the squelching bass of ‘Bombay Mix’, which easily could have played during the Second Summer of Love.
