Wanda Group lands back on the Vermont-based NNA tapes with other extended slab of engrossing musique concrete / sound collage abstractions. Both of the 20-minute pieces on the Ornate Circular LP represent a pastiche of intricate sonic detailing; a finely knitted tapestry of vague field recordings that drift in and out of focus, propped by wavering drones and shrieking sound design. At first contact these pieces seem to be static, although deeper listening reveals abstract subtleties that discretely evolve, announcing themselves then disintegrating into the background. It’s a piece that requires you to hand over your complete attention, but in doing so you’ll be rewarded with an all-consuming, transcendent experience.
