No rest for Church head Seb Wildblood as he follows up his ’15 debut LP Foreign Parts and a killer 12” on his own personal SW offshoot with the U cassette. Across the six cuts here, the Londoner serves up classy, easy-going melodic house, rife with live instrumentation and odd little quirks that keeps the ears pricked up. Dig into ‘I Will’ for a mellow, sax-led soulful smooze, followed by the more contemplative, fuzzy title cut ‘U’ and upbeat, dance floor friendly manoeuvres on ‘Lifestyle’ replete with tweeting birds. Flip the tape for an interesting classic string / car alarm pairing on ‘I Won’t’, whilst ‘Bonsai Care’ wanders into Detroit territory with its bold synth keys and dry percussion whereas ‘Crazy, Eyes, Eric’ digs deep, deep down for dubbed-out session of crackly 4am swing.
