NA (aka Daniel Pineda, one half of L.A. production duo NGUZUNGUZU alongside Asma Maroof) returns to Fade To Mind with the Cellar EP, his second solo release following 2013’s Xtreme Tremble. The artwork is rather instructive as to what lies beneath the trap door – dark, deconstructed, forward-thinking club music that spars with themes of technology and degradation. In ‘Cellar Theme’, clanking torture dungeon percussion alternates with more glossy territory, while ‘Definite Sentence’ deals in deep bass pulses and whirring FX that call to mind the first Jam City album. The arresting ‘NA In A Mood’ pairs twinkling outer space melodies with abrasive drums, and draws an end to Pineda’s fascinating study of contrasts.
