One of Finnish experimental hero and Pan Sonic member Mika Vainio’s earliest projects was Gagarin Kombinaatti, an industrial group akin to metal bashers like Einsturzende Neubauten, Test Dept., and Throbbing Gristle. The band didn’t get very far and their music hasn’t been released to the wider populace before (save for the appearance of their track ‘Raskas’ – also featured here – on a compilation in 2005), but Vainio has pulled together an album’s worth of material from his original cassette recordings, fusing musique concrete, noise rock, proto-sampling, drone, and aluminium-thin beats together with satisfying (and loud!) results.
