JD Twitch completely floors us with the first outing of 2016 on his Optimo Trax imprint with a split EP consisting of an early, previously unreleased cut from legendary Mancunian artist Bryn Jones aka Muslimgauze and material from shadowy Italian outfit Underspreche. Allegedly and as the titled would suggest, the gritted ‘ardcore drum fills on ‘Untitled 1985’ were originally concocted in 1985, predating the entire UK hardcore by at least five years, which would be another interesting accolade to add to this instantly prolific artist’s repertoire; but claiming rights aside, the gristly drums and muffled bass notes are ripe for today’s dancefloors, whilst Victor Shan and Running Back man Gerd Janson add in those all important, face-melting rave stabs on their mix. On the flip, Underspreche take inspiration and field recordings from the Kenyan Mukunguni tribe (previously spotlighted by Honest Jons), firstly conjuring up a percussively clunky, hallucinatory ethnic brew on ‘Flowers From The Lake’, followed by the more techno-indebted, bellowed-out stomp of ‘Naked.
