Repitch co-founder Nino Pedone continues to push his unique, tormented, noise-driven take on mutant strands of techno and 90’s DnB via his praised Shapednoise alias with a third full length entitled Different Selves on Type. Coming off the back of the dystopic detritus exhibited on The Death Of Rave as part of experimental megatron The Sprawl (together with Mumdance and Logos), Pedrone’s latest offload is a pitiless assault on the eardrums, opening with brutal call to rites ‘Enlightenment’, a hostile piece recalling some of Ben Frost’s combative excursions, whereas ‘Dream Within A Dream’ drifts into an unwieldy rhythm with its sheet noise and industrial clamors. ‘What’s It Like’ deploys torrents of skin-stripping aural dissonance, advancing the blueprint of 90’s DnB into its most visceral and physical form, whilst the ear-splitting cacophony of ‘Escalation’ ensures no-one gets out of this piece alive.
