With WU15, Two of London’s most hotly-tipped producers hook up for a debut, self-titled EP on Alexander Nut and Floating Points’ reliable Eglo camp. The sweltering, broken-beat jazz-tinged house of Rhythm Section signee Henry Wu and the equally stirring soul of ascendant Wild Oats man K15 feels like a perfect match. Here, the pair executes four mature cuts packed with a slew of references, opening with the tinselly hi-hats and beautifully blended piano / synth chord melodies of ‘Love’s Gambit’, before settling into the sumptuous, late night jazz haze of ‘Space & Time’. Flipside, ‘The Anthem’ takes a more direct aim at the ‘floor with its liquid, live-instrumentation groove whereas ‘Shahada’ ups the heat with its doodling synth melodies and stepping broken beat that has Wu’s finger prints all over it.
