New York’s finest Anthony Naples checks back into to his faultless Proibito imprint with his second serving of saturated house goodness following the scintillating Body Pill debut LP on Text. Once again Naples sets the bar for quality with the liquid, squirmy synth details and shimmering dub chords of title cut ‘Smacks’, which kicks along on its own accord, whereas ‘Zitronen’ pairs elegant, rising strings and nimble bongos to a more direct beat for maximum dance floor efficiency. Flipside we’re dropped into the woozy territory of ‘Bonobo’, with its swirling textures and deft little synth picks striking a perfect balance between dewy-eyed nostaligia and weathered, club-ready tenacity. Finally, ‘Dopes To Infinity (4DM)’ rounds off what may be the New Yorker’s strongest offering to date with a bellowing, dubby 4/4 stomp and panning sci-fi blips reminiscent of Oni Ayhun’s hallucinatory works.
