Upfront release

The Flask imprint rears its head once more with a new album of frosty electronics and wood-carved ambience in the form of Samoyed's new LP Saturday. Saturday takes eleven tracks of 80's proto-sci-fi referencing sound and leaves them out in the wilderness (apparently Saturday was recorded in a hut in the North of Scotland) to get an earthy texture that gives each piece a natural and unique feel missing from the majority of current wilderness-ridden modern classical-fuelled ambient electronica. There is a wide range of styles that hang together with a loose narrative from the Raime on a tropical holiday post-punk drumming of A Persimmon to the fade into dusk piano led Fawn that comes across like a dream collab between Clark and Cynthia Dall. Elsewhere the more beats 'n' bass rooted sounds explored on recent releases for Astro:Dynamics and GLUM get a nod on late highlight Minnow. All in all Saturday is a solid album of interesting ideas that are well executed with a confidence and taste pallet for sound that will no doubt peak interest from ears further afield than previous Samoyed records.
