The Maghreban caps off a fine 2015 with another curiosity on familiar outpost Zoot Records with the Dynamite / Calypso Christmas EP. First up, we’re hit with the hissing, clumpy percussive jaunt of ‘Dynamite’, fitted out with a moody bass undercurrent and a slew of cockeyed auditory quirks to keep things characteristically off-kilter, whilst the ‘Drums’ mix strips things back to a useful DJ tool for the savvy selectors. Despite it’s misleading title, ‘Calypso Christmas’ is neither Calypso nor Christmassy, although with its sweltering melody and irregular crowd shouts it’s sure to keep the ‘floor in jovial spirits.
