Now in its 8th edition, the iconic dubstep series Tempa Allstars continues to amass the genre’s most enticing new representatives. Following 2014’s version which showcased talents such as Wen, Alex Coulton and Batu, Vol. 8 takes a more international stance, further expanding the definition of the genre. Hot on the heels of his debut album on Tectonic, Manchester’s Acre opens the compilation with a mix of raw kitchen utensils style percussion, contrasting syncopated overdriven elements with subtle ambient synths. With his shouting vocal sample and hulling keys, Epoch from New Zealand opts for a more menacing atmosphere, while the rolling bass of Sydney’s Cliques and the reverberant drums of Youngsta & Distance’s Untitled collaboration provide a more classic point of reference.
