Berlin based duo Max Graef and Glenn Astro expand on the success of their fruitful collaborations, including the inaugural Money $ex Records release with an incendiary debut on Ninja Tune. A tale of two halves, the duo’s adept use of live instrumentation applied with dancefloor sensibilities creates a rapturous affair, starting with the rollicking drum licks and jazz keys of swinging cut ‘Magic Johnson’, which keeps things off kilter with subtle scratching samples. Flipside, ‘Tape Johnson’ employs the same heady formula, although this time settling into a clumpier, downtempo-esque beat albeit with the same explosive potential on the ‘floor.
