Genres

Perennial archive-trawlers Numero Group reintroduce a lost ambient/New Age work that’s too good to be relegated to the bin of ‘library music’. Sprawled across two luxuriant, 20-plus minute dreamscapes, Don Slepian’s Sea of Bliss was composed on the absurdly arcane Alles Machine Synthesizer at the Bell Laboratories scientific research centre, eventually set to limited-run cassette. Long out of print since its 1980 release, Slepian’s grand masterpiece is the fitting amniotic counterpart to Laurie Spiegel’s The Expanding Universe.
