Maxsta, the East London grime MC responsible for the ma-hoo-sive ‘East London Is Back’ in 2011, throws a curveball with his new EP for Rinse. On ‘No Retreat’ he teams up with Tri Angle producer Boothroyd for a track that’s completely skewed, its minimalist beat skipping and refusing to settle. The track is barely kept glued together by Maxsta’s flow. Further collaborations with Boothroyd (‘Hood Pharmacist’ and ‘Mare Street Dick Head’) keep things abstract. The other half of the EP features somewhat more straightforward yet possibly even more explosive production from Maniac.
