Former Wolf Eyes member Mike Connelly and his wife Tara are Clay Rendering. They first laid down a shiver of gauzy post-punk on the sparkling single Vengeance Candle (2013) via long-revered New York imprint, Hospital Productions (ran by Dominick Furnow). Here they return in 2015 with their debut full-length. Snowthorn marks a bittersweet distillation of that earlier single’s Cocteau shimmer, Blackest Ever Black palette (think Tropic of Cancer, Sandra Electronics, F ingers), and a throbbing, slo-motorik hum – like Chromatics pushed low on valium.
