Originally released in 2001, the debut album from Goldfrapp is reissued. It was this LP that offered the masses their first introduction to the blissful trip-hop and ambient electro-pop the duo had to offer. Recorded in a Wiltshire bungalow, sounds from classic ‘70s mainstream, theatrical pop and featherweight folk all simmered together to form this now-iconic debut. Cuts like Paper Bag and Utopia towed the line between romanticism and ghostly delicacy. Whispered, wispy vocals set against a backdrop of rich, cinematic instrumentation. As debuts go, few have managed to be as beguiling as this one.
