Two of the finest modern pop musicians get together on a new EP for Mexican Summer, recorded in Texas as part of the label’s Martha Myths festival. The songs are psychedelic and funky, but they’re not exactly psych-funk. You can pick out Connan’s distinctive guitar work and Dev Hynes’s rhythmic playing style, but it also sounds like neither of their solo projects. Basically, it’s a unique set of songs that carry a carefree sense of spontaneity and freedom.
