Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never delivers another mesmerising release via his expertly curated Software imprint with the original game soundtrack to Dyad from David Kanaga. The game itself is a rail-shooter that takes places in a Kubrick-esque stargate sequence, favouring the overall psychedelic experience over any sort of objective, therefore positioning the music as integral to the feel of sensory overload. Kanaga’s soundtrack covers short bursts of attention deficit sound, ranging from moments of angelic ambient grace, bitty chiptune allsortments and breakneck pieces of future-facing speedcore. At times bewildering, it’s difficult to settle due to the brutal transitions of tempo and texture, reflecting the frenzied feel of today’s instra-age.
