Marquis Hawkes makes his return to Houndstooth with the Sweet EP. Opener ‘When I Get Home’ is cut from the same cloth as last year’s summer hit ‘Can’t Find A Reason’, with a sugar-sweet R&B sample riding over a jazzy house sway. ‘At The Witness Stand’ flies along on a freestyle rhythm, sampling some classic boogie for its hook with somewhat loopy results. The harder-hitting tracks appear on the b-side: ‘Sweet’ is a raw jack track, while ‘What A Relief’ is a Cajmere-nodding slam dunk (we can only assume that title is an ode to Relief Records).
