Very little is known about the artist behind Prequel Tapes, other than the fact that they make exquisite grainy electronic music and that their debut album Inner Systems arrives courtesy of R’COUP’D (a Ninja Tune-backed label run by Fin Greenall of Fink). Inner Systems might seem coarse in its textures, but listen closer and it reveals itself to be far more beautifully composed and impeccably produced than most lo-fi tape excursions. The album journeys through drone, techno, industrial and ambient music, and it should satisfy fans of labels like Ghost Box and artists like Demdike Stare and Lee Gamble.
