Toronto-bred and NYC-based producer Jex Opolis debuts on Gerd Janson’s Running Back imprint with the varied Good Timin’ EP — which not only shares the same name as his Toronto club-night-cum-label, but also brings those synth-funky, classic house vibes to the German imprint. ‘Studio E’ is flexing its moisturised 909 muscles with impressive effects, while ‘Laxmi Tool’ evokes tribal associations with its conga drumming and opaque vocal element. On ‘Harpa’, Jex further increases the power of the bass, showcasing it in a bellied pattern, and then rounds off the EP with the melodic synth cut of ‘La Casa’.
