Ghanaian artist Ata Kak released an incredible solo cassette called Obaa Sima way back in 1993, which paired his bizarre and distinctive quasi-scat style of rapping with frenzied beats produced at home using second-hand gear. The cassette was eventually dug up by Brian Shimkovitz, founder of the Awesome Tapes From Africa record label and blog, who posted a lo-fi rip of it online. It slowly built up a cult following and, after an eight-year search for the musician, Shimkovitz tracked down Ata Kak to reissue the album officially. ‘Obaa Sima’ and ‘Dagya’ is the second 12” single to come from that album, pressed up for DJs and avid collectors alike.
