Charles Drakeford’s –increasingly vital- From The Depths imprint reaches EP three with this luscious 12” from Parisian brothers Elzéard & Moana, split like all sibling pairs do, across two sides. Elzeard takes the lead with the hazy bump-n-crawl of ‘Concussion’(all sun-baked loops, new age glisten) and follows up with a shiver of shuffling echo-chamber house grooves. Moana’s ‘Zimba’ takes an African-chant sample as its centrepiece, twisting and writhing it in the 4/4, while final track ‘Planck Unit’ delights in tape-hissed psychedelic house and euphoric synth wail. Drakeford once said of his fledgling imprint “They’re all records that can sit in a record bag, with no real predisposed idea for how or when they might work”, which sums up this fruitful and eclectic debut EP perfectly.
