Bilal releases his fourth album (fifth, if you include his never-officially-released Love For Sale), featuring collaborations with Big K.R.I.T., Kendrick Lamar, and Kimbra. Inquisitive and playful, In Another Life largely foregoes electronic production in favour of something that feels looser and more live than his most recent albums. The album traverses smoky lounge-noir (on ‘Star Now’), inverted garage rock (‘Lunatic’), and skittish hip hop (‘Money Over Love’, featuring a rapidfire Kendrick Lamar guest verse), resulting in something that feels totally contemporary yet rooted in the traditions of soul, blues, and jazz music.
