Master of noise and true wizard of the trudging, unrelenting soundscape, Merzbow returns for this chapter for Essence music. Across just 4 tracks, the depth and breadth of Masami Akita’s arsenal is laid out and reassembled on record. Blistering, trying frequencies, hiccuping analog loops, industrial machinery cries and detailed looping and mastering all coming together for this record which was – in part – inspired by the delicate scuttles of the insect world. This onslaught of sharp psychedelia is a new peak in Akita’s catalogue. A testing but worthwhile listen.
