Sacred Tapes excel themselves with this two track LP from the near mythical Philip Corner, having released some of his earliest works on the legendary Folkways Imprint in the mid 60's and blazing his way up to the present day with this release of a recording from 1995 at the school voor Nieuwe Dansontwikkeling that was performed with groups of dancers (think of Francois Tusques experiments in Jazz on Finders Keepers with a touch of Remi Gassmann for an idea of what to expect!) Through More Than The Mysterious Barricade is a truly mind-blowing material, Part 1 starts with spider web of improvised mechanical percussion before a lone piano sculpts its way inside the vast echo chamber around the 14 minute mark. The piece meanders along with no real direction in sight, just doing its own thing drifting through the atmosphere before the piano takes centre stage and a fitting mid 90's glitch backdrop of improvised electronics give the track a sparse zero gravity techno feel. Part 2 continues the journey into the otherworldly tense structures that are constantly building in on themselves for 90 minutes plus before slowing to an ending on a lone piano melancholy feeling that will leave you feeling like you have you have just experienced something truly unique.
