Irish musician Olan uses old gear, found samples, and a distressed voice to create a warped and claustrophobic quasi-pop music. Released by Ashley Paul’s Wagtail label, Monk sees Olan gut out familiar sounds across its duration. ‘Saint Homeless’ is almost Beck-like in its druggy groove, while the melody of ‘Blood In The Sink’ could be reconfigured as stadium pop melody if Olan had recorded it with more than a 50p budget.
