L.A. Takedown (1989), taut West Coast crime thriller directed by Michael Mann for U.S cable television. L.A. Takedown (2015), a 44-minute singular suite of music made by Aaron M. Olson and inspired by those same freeway car chases and sunset shoot-outs, that Mann made a career of filming. The L.A. Takedown project began life as a pseudonym for Olson scoring his friend’s short films and is now realised across a debut album of orange-haze synth lines, motorik drums and chorus-caressed guitars. As the piece ebbs and flows we are moved into the neon lights of Drive (OST), of LCD Soundsystem, of widescreen Yacht-Rock, of NEU! visions of the Los Angeles cityscape.
