Following a couple of joint live sets at Haldern Pop Festival and the simultaneous update of their Facebook profile photos, Olafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm drop a surprise 7" made up of two sublime live piano improvisations. Like their previous collaborative EP Stare, the tracks were recorded in Nils Frahm’s studio in Berlin in 2012. Life Story Love And Glory highlights what their respective compositional techniques have in common: both Arnalds and Frahm approach songwriting in a very instinctive way which translates to an almost naive immediacy in their music. As in most of Nils Frahm’s solo work, the recording process – the atmosphere of the room in which the sound was captured – becomes audible. On ‘Life Story’, you can hear Frahm setting up the microphones and moving things around while Arnalds is already playing the piano, ‘Love And Glory’ features the sounds of the artists’ breathing, making listening to this EP another intimate experience of the duo’s work.
