Stuart Argabright’s Black Rain and Repitch Recordings co-founder Nino Pedone AKA Shapednoise coalesce their clouded, rackety aural aesthetics for the second outing on Cosmo Rhythmatic. Taking its namesake and inspiration from Apophis – a near earth asteroid that poses a slight threat to humanity; the producers disgorge a disturbing passage of technoid tumult. ‘Metal Home’ pushes a harsh, impregnable wall of sound right out of the speaker, before yielding blooming Sci-Fi textures, giving us a Whitehouse-esque spin on the Solaris OST; whereas ‘Autonomous Lethality’ slips into paranoid rhythmic convulsions. On the flip, ‘Interceptor’ gets a good going over courteous of Demdike’s Miles Whittaker on his ‘Ramen Reshape’, with its vicious synth lashings perfect for decimated dance floors, whilst the original lets loose on a spluttering serving of callous over-driven hammer blows.
