Another great coup from 100% Silk: Brussels-based artist Paradise 100 first appeared on the LA imprint in 2013 with his Loin King EP, and now he’s back with an EP titled just as funny. Northern Seoul is a joyous affair: on its title track, the Belgian house producer utilises echo effects in such a smart way that the notes of its synth pattern sound as if they were playing tag. When the repetitive bass rubs against the syncopated xylophone melody of the opener, it creates exciting rhythmic friction. Squelching analogue-style keys dominate ‘Ostende’, while ‘Brutal Tops’ is of a truly bouncy nature, fooling around between lighthearted xylophone arpeggios, grooving chords and funky bass lines.
