Released on dancehall super-label Mixpak in 2011, Kingston Story was one of the first major releases from troubled reggae pop megastar Vybz Kartel. As the Dre Skull produced opener Jamaica suggests, this LP is a pure dancehall masterclass. Nimble, trampolining vocal performances against sun-drenched party-starting production. As well as worldwide hits like Wine Pon Me and Yuh Love, the record is full of stiller moments which set a precedent for artists like Popcaan to follow up on- odes to the youth of the ghettos that end in hope rather than fear.
