Luxury Apartments is a posthumous release from David Tyack. In the early-‘00s, Tyack was a core member of Andy Votel’s Twisted Nerve label, releasing experimental sounds under the name Dakota Oak while playing on records with artists like Badly Drawn Boy, Jane Weaver (with Misty Dixon), and James Rutledge (D.O.T.). Shortly before his death in 2002, Tyack completed this album of improvisational electro-acoustic music characterised by vinyl crackle and tape hiss. It’s a record that’s at once haunting and yet also strangely relaxing, and it sounds remarkably ahead of its time today. The reissue comes courtesy of Andy Votel, Doug Shipton, and Sean Canty of Demdike Stare’s Dead-Cert Home Entertainment label.
