Genres

The Voice Of The Turtle is the most experimental and genre-busting work in the catalogue of US folk guitarist John Fahey. By bringing together elements of psychedelia, blues, ambience, white noise and compositional traits of Indian music- Fahey created a record of cutting-edge traditionalism. Rather than completely shunning the blueprints that he was more associated with, he decorated them with sounds from further afield to create something truly singular. A patchwork of sounds can be heard on tracks like Bottleneck Blues and The Little Train That Couldn’t. It was a patchwork that deservedly transcended the wider folk sounds of the 1960s and placed Fahey in his own lane.
