Rizzla, former resident DJ at influential NYC party GHE20G0TH1K and a longstanding associate of LA label Fade to Mind, releases his long-awaited debut EP. Iron Cages is at once aggressive yet sensual, blending international dance styles including soca, vogue house, UK funky, hardstyle, and dembow with mangled sounds reminiscent of classic ‘90s house tunes. There’s a political edge to Rizzla’s club music: ‘Iron Cages’ is named after philosopher Max Weber’s descriptions of capitalist bureaucracy, ‘Black Jacobins’ is a reference to the Haitian revolution, and ‘Fucking Fascist’ speaks for itself.
