Since the release of experimental pop trio Micachu & the Shapes’ last album Never, bandleader Mica Levi has kept herself busy making sublime leftfield pop music with Tirzah and composing the game-changing score to Jonathan Glazer’s ‘Under The Skin’. Three years on and the Shapes are back with Good Sad Happy Bad, an album born out of a casual rehearsal that developed into an hours-long improvisational jam. The album is one-of-a-kind, feeling far more freeform and exploratory than anything the Shapes have put their name to so far and demonstrating a real sense of adventure and a cheerful disregard for form and convention in its songwriting.
