Producers using hardware to create techno music might not be a rarity these days, very few however build their own Eurorack synthesizer modules. New York veteran Mark Verbos is one of them, and on his latest effort for party-cum-label The Bunker New York he once again displays how elegantly he can dance with his machines. The tracks on Walk The Distance are of a purely organic nature: the opener presses ahead with weighty kicks and densely layered rattling percussion. While the detailed production style is reflected on ‘In The Back Room’, its synth has a stickier texture. A much bolder, more melodic sequence of nasal synths dominates ‘Just A Little Late’, but the most drastic contrast comes in the form of the title track, a slow-burning, swelling beast of eerie dimensions.
