Darker Than Blue is the second album from North London vocalist, musician, and producer Blue Daisy. Released on R&S Records, fans of fellow signee James Blake’s introverted songcraft should find a lot to love here. In the past, Blue Daisy enlisted guest vocalists to breathe life into his experimental rap and trip hop beats, but on Darker Than Blue he adds his own spoken word to an assortment of atmospheric and immersive sound worlds. It’s a naked, intense record that traverses gloomy rap, punk rock, blues, and gospel music, but even on the darkest tracks there’s a hint of salvation and hope that shines through.
