Sheffield electro label Central Processing Unit welcome London Modular Alliance’s own Gavin Pykerman with his Koova project. Following previous efforts for Abstract Forms and Brokntoys, This Is Not My Future sits well within the CPU roster. Pykerman’s love for modular sounds becomes apparent throughout his oldschool tunes: ‘Retro Transformer’ deploys a sci-fi theme, and on the title track, robotic voices from the 70s pipe up over one-dimensional string synths. ‘Distant’ is a misleadingly foreboding affair that explodes in the boom of ‘In Search Of’, the EP's truly funky highlight.
