Stephen O’Malley of Sunn O))) debuts on Demdike Stare's DDS imprint with an LP of occult modern classic compositions. The record is O’Malley’s first outing composing for an orchestra. From the unrelenting drone intensity of his work with Greg Anderson (and more recently Scott Walker), there are elements of all his work thus far incorporated on to Gruidés. Through the collaboration with ONCEIM - a 35-piece improvisational orchestra from France - O’Malley has put together a longer drone piece which blends the long form severity of Sunn O))) with the kind of icy percussive work that helped craft the Walker collaboration. A bold and singular effort from the drone mastermind.
