London House producer The Maghreban (previously on Zoot Records) is here with his second release for Parisian label Versatile. In fact, there is something of the Gallic flavour at play here in the lo-fi, early Roulè cut ups of ‘Frenetique’ and the rolling bass and skronking sax stabs of ‘Kung Fu’. Lead track ‘Wonder Woman’ meanwhile winks to a scuzzier Italians Do It Better disco sound in a dangerous liaison with James Chance and NYC No Wave – all gnarled, staccato slap bass, wonky percussion and frantic samples. Tip for those mentioned above and could easily slide into a L.I.E.S heavy mix session.
