Two years after the release of their debut Dromes on Sonic Cathedral Recordings, British four piece Younghusband return with their second full-length. Dissolver marks their departure from their previous label: it arrives via the All Tomorrow’s Parties label, and presents the London rock group with a matured sound: putting their 60s pop melodies in the foreground by toning down the delay and reverb effects on Euan Hinshelwood’s vocals, Younghusband display a great sense of dynamics, juxtaposing faster, energetic numbers (‘Blonde Bending’) with slower, more contemplative songs (‘Orange Flair’). Picking up where the likes of Elliott Smith, The Shoes, and Big Star left off, they manage to achieve a perfect harmony between the familiar and the unexpected, while still sounding their own.
