Distal’s Anarchostar imprint hosts this new long-player from Soloman Rose aka Silkie. There is far more of an astral, cosmic landscape of sounds at play on Fractals. His blend of dubstep, funk and jazz is used to tell the story of an undervalued musician whose music is “sacred to a technological ceremony that can prolong the lives and souls of those who wish it”. There is a truly extraterrestrial feel to cuts like Escape Route and Moda (featuring the input of Pennyroyal stalwart J. Tijn). Conversely, tracks like Arcada and Cascada are almost tranquil in a starry-eyed kind of way. A high-concept comeback that pays off for Silkie.
