With the 50-minute sound collage Rein, Brooklyn duo Sam Haar and Zach Steinman aka Blondes invite us into their intimate realm of sound. It is the result of an intense studio binge the RVNG Intl protégés experienced over the course of a weekend and arrives just before their more official Persuasion EP. Conceived through collaborative improvisation in the studio, the experimental piece resembles the process of their live shows, conveying an organic and intuitive feel: their electronics evolve like moths; and although it may seem as if Haar and Steinmann were tuning in and out of ideas, they are likely to reappear in mutated forms: listen closely, and you can hear them grasping the essence.
